The questionnaire titled “ Enquiry on Comenius project for teachers” has been carried out in the Upper Secondary School Complex in Sadowne. The questions concerned 14 teachers to rate the impact of the project on their work. The survey was carried out after the first year of the project.
The research shows that the majority the respondents answered their lessons were enriched by exchanging teaching materials giving the rate “5” – 64 % and rate “4” – 36 % in the first question.
The teachers were able to able to use some of the Comenius partners’ ideas in their lessons. 64 % of the questioned marked “4” and 36 % marked “5”.
Cooperating with the Comenius colleagues helped the teachers to enlarge their competence. 57 % of them gave “4” and 43 % gave “5” in question number 3. The same rates were given to question number 4, which concerned improving their knowledge of foreign languages.
Great majority of the questioned think study visits are an essential element of cooperation. For 93 % the rate is “5”. Only one student gave “4”.
The Comenius project encourage the teachers to intensify “cross-subject” teaching. 79 % rated “5” and 21 % rated “4”.
Hospitality is a perfect method which allow the teachers to gain insight into the variety of the European way of life. 93 % of them gave “5” and only one person gave “4” in question number 7.
The Comenius project has intensified teamwork within the school. 71 % of the teachers gave “5” and 29 % gave “4” in question number 8.
According to the respondents teamwork between the partner schools has been an extremely important component of the success of the Comenius work. All them gave the rate “5” in question number 9.
For 57 % of the teachers, who marked “5”, and for the 43 % teachers, who marked “4”, working with the computer and the internet improved their confidence in it ?
The students find the project motivating. 43 % marked “4” and 57 % gave “5” in question number 11.
The project themes turned out not simple enough for the teachers to include the project themes in their annual curriculum. A little more than one third gave the rate “3” and 64 % of the questioned rated ‘4” in question number 12.
The directorate of the school was helpful in supporting the Comenius work. The 93 % of the teachers valued question number 13 with “5” and 7 % with “4”.
Pupils’ self-reliance in their project work varied a lot. Almost three quarters assessed the work giving the rate “4”. The rates “3” and ‘5” were indicated by equal number of respondents (14 %).
The pupils’ interest in the project results of other Comenius schools was inspiring. 21 % of the questioned marked ‘4’ and 79 % marked “5” in question number 15.
To sum up, the survey found that the respondents find the project an essential element in school curriculum that enables them to intensify teamwork within the school. Although, the project themes were pretty difficult to include in the annual schedule, it enlarges the teachers’ competence in foreign languages, their ICT skills and improves their confidence in using the internet. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that according to the questioned, the teamwork and study visits were essential components of the success of the Comenius work.
